Belleville, a city of nearly 4,000 people and another 36,000 in the surrounding townships, is located about 15 minutes east of Ann Arbor, along the southern shore of Belleville Lake. Belleville's location between Ann Arbor and Detroit makes it attractive to commuters working in eastern Washtenaw and throughout Wayne County. Belleville is home to a number of businesses employing between 200 and 800 people, and to a whole host of smaller enterprises as well.
Outdoor recreation is a big part of life in Belleville. At six miles long, Belleville Lake is the largest inland lake in Wayne County and offers a wide variety of water sports. A number of parks are located within easy reach of Belleville, including the 1200-acre Lower Huron Metropark, and the 1000-acre Crosswinds Marsh. Four public golf courses are nearby. Events occur throughout the year in Belleville, with the National Strawberry Festival in June as the centerpiece. More than 30 years old, this event draws over 200,000 people each year to a 3-day celebration of summer and of the importance of the strawberry growers to this area.
Belleville offers a variety of housing styles from modest older homes, to mid-range homes of more recent construction, and significant lakefront properties. Condominium communities are also readily found.
